A relay is an electrically operated switch that allows low power signals to control high power circuits. It is an electromechanical device that consists of an electromagnet (coil), an armature, and one or more sets of contacts. When the coil is energized, it creates a magnetic field that attracts the armature, closing or opening the contacts and completing or interrupting the circuit.
